The ® Trademark Notice
Federal trademark registration allows use of the ® symbol. Once you register your band's name as a trademark (or service mark) you can use the trademark symbol. This puts the world on notice that you are claiming ownership of the name. Anyone using it would then be considered a "willful infringer" and could be liable for damages and stopped from using the name anywhere in the U.S.
